Your web designer is not a SEO expert, because SEO is a whole different ball game, but there are common things that could be done. Ask your web person to do these for your site! It takes time, and effort from the developer part and also from your part, to supply the relevant information, but worth the time and effort.

  1. Keyword research
Find the right keywords for your website.
Let say you sell real estate in Boston, Metro West area. Do you think that “real estate” is a good keyword for you? If some one is looking for a real estate in San Francisco wont be interested to contact you even if your site rank on #1.
You don’t want to rank on every phrase, but want to rank good on a couple of them. You have to find those that bring you business!
There are couple of links that help you.
    Google Keyword Planner
    Wordtracker
  2. On-page SEO
Optimized page titles. Keep your page titles short and include the main keyword phrase for the page. For low competitive phrases a good page title alone is probably enough to generate a good ranking.
    Meta tags.
Meta keywords are pretty much useless. They’re far too easy to spam and are no longer considered a ranking signal.
  3. Link Building
Links more than anything will determine where your pages rank.
  4. Google Analytics
